Lady Cats improve record 26-3 with win over Pinckneyville

Blackcat Shelbey Miller heads to second base in conference play against Carmi White County High School Thursday May 3 at Goreville Village Park. Miller would later make it home off a hit from Tiffani Shadowens but the team was unable to mount a comeback falling to the Bulldogs 9-5.

May 7 vs. Pinckneyville
The softball Lady Cats improved their season mark to 26-3 with a home win over Pinckneyville last Monday. The final score was 12-2. Sydnee Rushing pitched the entire game for Goreville, pushing her record to 16-3 in the circle. Taylor Odom had four hits, including her 17th home run of the year.

The Lady Cats led 7-2 after three innings. They made it 11-2 with four more runs in the fourth inning, then made the final margin with a run in the sixth, to end the game.

Goreville had 11 hits for the contest and capitalized on four errors by the Lady Panthers.

Top hitters for Goreville: Darnell 1-4 (RBI); Miller 2-3; Odom 4-4 (3 RBI’s); Pritchett 1-4 (RBI); Shadowens 2-3 (RBI); Ash. Webb 1-3 (2 RBI’s).

May 1 at Chester
On Tuesday of last week, the Lady Cats notched a short game BDC win at Chester. The final score was 13-0. Brittney Pritchett pitched the complete game shut-out and allowed five hits.

Goreville jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three innings. The Lady Cats added five more runs in the top of the fourth to close out the scoring.

May 3 vs. Carmi
Last Thursday, Goreville lost a BDC contest to visiting Carmi. The final score was 9-5 and it was the first conference loss of the season for the Lady Cats. Sydnee Rushing pitched the entire game and took the loss.

Carmi led 3-1 after four innings. The Lady Bulldogs made it 7-1 with four runs in the top of the fifth before Goreville scored three in the bottom of the frame to narrow the gap to 7-4. Carmi tallied two more runs in the sixth for a 9-4 lead. Goreville closed out the scoring with a run in the seventh. The Lady Cats had 10 hits and made two errors.
