Lady Blackcats defeat Trico

In action last week, the Lady Blackcats defeated Trico in two sets, 25-22, 25-22, on Tuesday night at Goreville. Prior to the start of the varsity contest, Goreville’s senior members of the volleyball team, Micaela Alred, Alison Webb, Kaylee Webb, and Ellen Wilkie were introduced and recognized for their participation.

In the first set, Trico held a 16-15 lead when the Lady Cats went ahead 17-16 on two consecutive kills by Ellen Wilkie. Goreville opened up a 22-19 lead when Alison Webb connected for two straight kills, and the Lady Cats held on for the win.

The score was tied in the second set at 11-11 before Goreville went on a 7-3 run, putting them ahead 18-14. Trico rallied to get within 21-20, but Goreville outscored the Lady Pioneers 4-2 the rest of the way for the win.

Kaylee Webb had 11 assists and Ellen Wilkie added six assists, while Alison Webb had eight kills for Goreville.

Trico won the JV match in two sets, 25-20, 25-23.

Last Friday, the Lady Cats finished their regular season with a three set win at Zeigler-Royalton, 22-25, 25-18, 25-13. Goreville heads into regional play with a 22-7 overall record.

Kaylee Webb led the Lady Cats with 20 assists, eight kills, and two aces.  Alison Webb and Ellen Wilkie each had 11 kills, while Cheyenne Reynolds added three kills for Goreville.
