Blackcats lose in overtime against Carterville

The Goreville High School boy’s basketball team lost a non-conference game at Carterville on Tuesday of last week in overtime, by the score of 64-63. The Blackcats’ season record is now 4-2.  Goreville will be playing in the Sesser-Valier Holiday tournament, with their opening round game set for Wednesday, Dec. 26 at 1:30 p.m. vs. Shawnee. The Cats are the #2 seed in the tourney, which concludes on Saturday.

Against Carterville, the Blackcats trailed 27-19 at halftime before they came back in the third quarter, outscoring the Lions 22-6, to take a 41-33 lead going into the fourth period.  Carterville rallied to tie it at 58-58 at the end of the quarter, then outscored the Cats 6-5 in the extra frame for the win.

Dayton Tripp led Goreville with 17 points, while Carterville’s Tyler Horn topped all scorers with 18 points.
