Goreville sixth grader Ryan Holland poses for a portrait Tuesday morning after having won the Grand Champion Regional Spelling Bee held at Shawnee Community College Monday night in which Holland first won overall in his grade before competing in the championship round and correctly spelling “Siberian” for the title.  He is the first student from Goreville to ever win the regional grand champion, an “accomplishment in itself,” said Goreville Bee coordinator Allison Robison.  Holland said he was a little nervous and excited but did not find the regional bee any more difficult than Goreville’s.  Holland recently won grand champion at Goreville’s bee and is slated to compete at the Tri-State Bee in Indiana in February for a chance to advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
