Lady Cats senior squad reach, surpass 100 wins
For only the second time in the Lady Blackcats’ basketball program history has a group or individual surpassed 100 wins in their high school career.
For seniors Jessica Wright, Allison Pritchett and Alison Webb, that elusive 100th win came and went recently as the Lady Cats defeated Elverado 74-44 on Jan. 10 and then continued adding to the wins.
Prior to this year’s senior squad, only former Blackcat Shelbey Miller racked up 100 wins.
“The only way to win 100 games in three years is to win the state championship each year and play in two, five-game round robin tournaments,” said coach Mike Helton of the possibility of winning 100 before a player is a senior. “It has not been done to my knowledge.”
Helton said he was happy for the seniors in their 100th win and said the team still had many challenges ahead before the season comes to an end.
The Lady Blackcats faced their first defeat of the season in the championship game against Mount Carmel’s Lady Aces at the 14th Annual Lady Eagles Winter Classic in Eldorado Saturday. The loss puts the Blackcats at 23-1.
