Blackcat athlete first in Goreville Schools to receive golf scholarship

Goreville Blackcat Senior J.T. Russell has signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf at the AIB College of Business in Des Moines, Iowa becoming the first player in school history to receive a golf scholarship. Goreville Blackcat Senior J.T. Russell has signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf at the AIB College of Business in Des Moines, Iowa becoming the first player in Goreville School’s history to receive a golf scholarship. Russell was 1st Team All-Conference in the Black Diamond Conference and set school records for score in both 9 hole and 18 hole events. Russell, a four year letter winner, finished second place in Regional competition, and placed 2nd and 3rd, consecutively, in the SIGA 2012 Summer Junior Tour. Russell also won medalist honors in 7 consecutive matches.

“We look forward to having J.T. in our program,” AIB College of Business men’s golf coach Tony Giannetto said. “He not only is a fine golfer, he is also an outstanding student. I know he will add a lot to our golf program and to AIB.”

 

Russell, the son of J.R. Russell and Amber McGrath, is a native of Marion, Ill., and will graduate from Goreville High School this spring and plans to major in Business Communications at AIB.
