Blackcats fall to Murphysboro, Du Quoin

Last Saturday, the Goreville High School baseball squad suffered a 7-3 loss at Murphysboro.  The Blackcats trailed 5-0 after the third inning before scoring a run in the top of the fourth.  The Red Devils answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame.  Goreville plated two runs in the top of the sixth to make the final score.  Alex Andros took the loss on the mound for the Blackcats.

Top hitters for Goreville: Gray 1-4; Vaughn 1-3 (RBI).

The Blackcats opened their season on Tuesday of last week with a 3-2 loss at Du Quoin.  The Indians had a 3-0 lead after five innings.  Blake Gray doubled in a run in the top of the sixth to make it 3-1, then Shon Messmer hit an RBI double in the seventh to close out the scoring.  Dayton Tripp started on the mound for Goreville and took the loss.
