Lady Cats season off to 2-1 start

The Goreville High School softball team picked up two wins last Saturday as the Lady Blackcats defeated Shawnee and Harrisburg in games played at Goreville.  With the wins, Goreville improved its record to 2-1.

Against Shawnee, Goreville led 5-0 after the first inning, then added three runs in the second and two more in the third to push its lead to 10-0.

The Lady Blackcats closed out their scoring with three runs in the fourth inning, while Shawnee scored its lone run in its half of the fourth to make the 13-1 final score.

Goreville had seven hits and took advantage of three errors by the Lady Redskins. Brittney Pritchett pitched the complete game for the win.

Top hitters for Goreville: Odom 1-2 (HR, 3 RBI); Schaede 2-3 (RBI); A. Webb 1-1 (RBI).

In Saturday’s second contest, the Lady Blackcats beat Harrisburg by the score of 5-0.  Goreville led 2-0 at the end of the second inning. They plated a pair of runs in the fourth, then added a run in the fifth to make the final margin.  Sydnee Rushing went the distance in the circle and allowed three hits for the win.

Top hitters for Goreville: Pritchett 1-3; Schaede 1-2; Sopczak 1-2 (2 RBI).

On Tuesday of last week, the Lady Blackcats dropped their season opener, losing at Du Quoin by the score of 1-0.  Haley Darnell had Goreville’s lone hit, while Sydnee Rushing pitched the complete game, giving up three hits in the loss.
