Lady Cats earn post-season honors

Head Goreville High School girl’s basketball coach Mike Helton and three members of the 2012-2013 squad have received post-season honors by being selected for the Southern Illinoisan’s All-South team.  Coach Helton was named Class 1A Coach of the Year.  He guided the Lady Blackcats to a 31-2 season record and a third consecutive berth in the Salem supersectional.

Senior Alison Webb scored at a 16.8 points per game clip and averaged eight rebounds.  She was named MVP of the Black Diamond West and was chosen for the IBCA All-State first team.

Jessica Wright, also a senior, was a BDC West All-Conference first team selection for the second straight year.  She averaged 9.5 points and over three steals per game.

Junior Haley Darnell had a 12.3 points per game average and was named to the IBCA All-State fourth team.
