Vaughn elected to 4th term
Goreville Mayor Larry Vaughn was re-elected to another four-year term in Johnson County’s Consolidated Elections Tuesday.
Vaughn has served as Goreville’s mayor for the past 12 years and said he is looking forward to continuing his work of serving the people of Goreville for another term.
“One thing I would like to see in the next four years is another annexation to the west to pick up exit 40,” Vaughn said. “We’ve had a lot of interest in that area. It’s just a goal, and it may not happen, [yet] that is something I’d like to see.”
Vaughn said the Village still has a lot of work ahead in continuing its improvements of its infrastructure with serious needs focusing on the aging water and sewer systems. The Mayor said one of the biggest projects the Village has completed in recent years is the annexation of the Egypt Isles Peninsula. He said such projects only come together with a “really good board” and he said he is fortunate to have such members since his first term.
Long-time Trustee Tim Gage has served with the Mayor since they both ran for positions on the Village board more than 22 years ago. Gage did not seek re-election this time around saying it was “just my time to let new blood in.”
Gage is Goreville’s Fire Chief and will remain as such.
“We’ve made a lot of progress in growing our town and improving our police, fire and infrastructure and I am proud to have been a small part of it all,” Gage said.
Tuesday’s elections also saw the return of Goreville Village Clerk Agnes M. Paul; Trustees Jason Beckmann, Jody Johnson and Jeff Jones. New to the Village Board is Trustee-elect Darren Venus.
In Goreville School Board elections, candidates Michael Cloud, Jeff Maze and David Baker were elected.
