Blackcats co-share Black Diamond Conference title

May 10 vs. Chester

The Goreville High School baseball team earned a share of the Black Diamond Conference championship by defeating Chester, 3-2, last Friday at Goreville.  Both teams completed BDC play with 9-1 conference marks.

Goreville took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two run triple by Caleb Belcher.  The Yellowjackets tied it with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth before Shon Messmer drove in a run in the bottom of the frame to give Goreville the 3-2 winning margin.

Alex Andros pitched the complete game victory to improve his record to 5-2.

Top hitters for Goreville: Belcher 1-3 (2 RBI); Gray 1-2; Messmer 2-4 (RBI); Tripp 1-4.

The Blackcats are playing in the Steeleville Class 1A Regional this week.

The regional championship game will be this Saturday (May 18) at 11:00 a.m., with the winner advancing to the Goreville Sectional, where they will match up against the winner of the Pope County Regional next Wednesday (May 22) at 4:30.

The sectional title game will be Saturday (May 25) at 1:00 p.m.
