Lady Cats finish regular season, head to Regionals

May 7 at Herrin
On Tuesday of last week, the Goreville High School softball team lost a non-conference contest at Herrin by the score of 2-0.
Herrin broke a scoreless tie with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, then added another run in the bottom of the sixth to close out the scoring. Sydnee Rushing pitched the complete game and allowed three hits.
Goreville had three hits, with Taylor Odom going 1-3 and McKenzi Schaede hitting two doubles for the Lady Blackcats.
May 10 vs. Chester
Last Friday, Goreville defeated Chester, 7-2, in a Black Diamond Conference contest at Goreville. The Lady Blackcats took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The score stayed that way until Chester tied it with a run in the top of the third. Goreville answered by scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead at 3-1.
The Lady Yellowjackets got within a run (3-2) in the fifth, but Goreville scored four times in the sixth to make the final margin.
Sydnee Rushing pitched the complete game to pick up her ninth win of the season.
Top hitters for Goreville: Darnell 2-3 (RBI); Odom 2-2 (HR, 3 RBI); Rushing 2-4.
May 11 at Benton
On Saturday, the Lady Blackcats lost a non-conference game at Benton, by the score of 4-2.
The Rangerettes had a 4-0 lead until Goreville scored twice in the top of the sixth, but the Lady Blackcats could get no closer.
Sydnee Rushing went the distance in the circle. Haley Darnell and McKenzi Schaede both went 1-3 with an RBI apiece. Montana Albright and Brittney Pritchett each had a hit for Goreville.
The Lady Blackcats are competing in the Pope County Class 1A regional this week, with the championship game set for Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The winner of the Pope County regional will advance to the Goreville Sectional to take on the winner of the Gallatin County Regional next Thursday (May 21) at 4:30 p.m. The sectional title contest will be on Saturday (May 25) at 11 a.m.
