The Goreville Dollar General store recently began its second annual collection for the Cache Creek Animal Rescue Center of Anna.

Collected items will help the not-for-profit animal rescue in its daily operations and Cache Creek will be on hand at the Dollar General store Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to collect the donations.

Cache Creek coordinators said they would have several pets that are up for adoption at the Sept. 7, pickup at the Dollar General store in Goreville.

“We enjoy helping the community here at Dollar General,” Denise Lukesh, Goreville Dollar General store assistant manager, said. “Although we cannot give donations directly from our store, organizations can apply to cooperate for a donation.”

Dollar General has conducted several donation drives throughout each year since they opened their doors in Goreville. The store has participated with Stuff the Bus program and Goreville School’s toy drive for Christmas as well as collecting donations for the Youth Center and candy to toss out during the Fourth of July parade.

“We have also had several groups from the school hold bake sales and car washes at the store,” Lukesh said, adding that the store will once again help collect food to assist in the Boy Scouts’ food drive in November.

The Goreville Dollar General store is hosting a campaign to help homeless animals by collecting goods and foods at the front of its store, which will be presented this Saturday at 2 p.m. to the Cache Creek Animal Rescue service, which operates out of Anna and services all who seek its help.

For the Cache Creek Animal Rescue Center, Dollar General has set up a large box at the front of the store in which items are to be placed. Dollar General is collecting items to help the Center offset costs for everyday items such as paper towels and cleaning supplies.

“The supplies are basic,” Lukesh said. “Cat and dog food, cleaning supplies, cat litter, copy paper, peroxide, rubbing alcohol, dish soap, cotton balls, paper towels, cotton towels and washcloths, garbage bags, bleach, sponges, laundry detergent, newspapers and they are also in need of a push mower and a weed whacker.”

Lukesh said the store is prepared to accept most donations with the exceptions of the lawn mowing equipment. Cache Creek Animal Rescue operates out of Anna as a “no-kill” service specializing in seeking adoptions of its rescues as well as offering its clinical services at affordable rates as a not-for-profit organization.
