Junior High Lady Cats place second in Marion Tournament

The Goreville Junior High School Blackcats softball team took second place against 16 teams at the Marion Tournament this past Saturday.

Coach Eric Goins said the “girls did really good” against some heavy competition for their first games of the season.

Goreville shut out Murphysboro 10-0 in five innings to start the tournament off. Macy Goins went 3-3 with a grand slam home run and six RBIs; Sam Licka went 2-2 and two RBI’s; Katy Schuetz went 2-3; Hannah Link went 2-3 with one RBI; and Kaitlynn Moore went 1-4.  Cheyenne Walker pitched the shut out with 13 strikeouts. Walker got the win.

In game two for Goreville, the Jr. Lady Cats defeated Massac County 8-1. Macy Goins went 3-3 with two RBIs; Shayna Elms went 1-3 with one RBI; Sam Licka went 1-3 with one RBI; Kaitlyn Moore went 1-3; Katy Schuetz went 1-3; and Hannah Link went 1-3. Cheyenne Walker pitched with strikeouts. Walker got the win.

In their third game of the tournament, Goreville defeated Johnston City 10-4 for the win. Macy Goins went 3-3 with one RBI; Cheyenne Walker went 2-3 with two RBIs; Hollie Link went 2-3 with two RBI’s; Hannah Link went 1-2; Katy Schuetz went 1-3; Kaitlyn Moore went 1-3; and Sam Licka went 1-4.  Cheyenne Walker pitched with 6 strikeouts. Walker got the win.

In their final game of the day, the Jr. Lady Cats fell 14-3 to Marion. Macy Goins went 1-2; Cheyenne Walker went 1-2 with one RBI; and Hannah Link went 1-3.  Walker, Hannah Link and Goins pitched for the Cats. Link took the loss.
