The Vienna-Goreville High School football team found it tough going last Friday night as the Eagles lost at Chester, by the score of 47-19.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Yellow Jackets took the lead on a 43 yard touchdown run early in the second period.  Chester forced the Eagles to punt, then on their second play from scrimmage, the Yellow Jackets scored again to make it 14-0.  Chester added two more touchdowns in the frame to give them a 27-0 halftime lead.

The Eagles’ troubles continued at the start of the second half as Chester scored at the 9:07 mark of the third quarter, but V-G got on the board when Kyefer Cavins returned the ensuing kick-off for a 78 yard touchdown, to make it 34-6.  Following a pair of Chester scores, Cavins broke loose for a 54 yard touchdown run around the right side.  Austyn Frassato’s extra point kick made it 47-13 heading into the fourth quarter.  V-G’s Connor Seavers closed out the scoring on a three yard run with less than five minutes to play.  The extra point run was unsuccessful, making the final score 47-19.

V-G had a total of 162 yards of offense and were led by Kyefer Cavins with 87 yards rushing and Connor Seavers, who carried for 51 yards.

The loss gives the Eagles a 1-1 season mark.  The varsity squad will try to get back in the win column when they host Hamilton County this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.  The freshman team plays at Hamilton County this Thursday, while the sophomores are on the road to Hamilton County next Monday.
