Goreville welder Alex Knight works on installing railing last week as part of the Safe Routes to School project, which brought wheelchair access to downtown Goreville as well as construction of a path to connect W. Collins St. with W. Main St. for “safer” and “easier” access to the village park by school students. Crews from E.T. Simonds Construction Company were busy Tuesday afternoon on Broadway finishing the installation project and trying to get a fresh coat of black paint on the rails before possible rains began. Simonds said they just received approval from the Illinois Department of Transportation to begin installing railing on the path to the park, which is estimated to be completed before the end of October.
