Junior High Blackcats heading to State

The Goreville Junior High School baseball team defeated Vienna 9-3 in seven innings Saturday at home to win the Regionals.  Goreville will play Saturday, Oct. 5 at 9:30 a.m. at Pinckneyville in the State Tournament.

The Goreville Junior High baseball and softball teams are headed to the state tournament after the two teams won the Regional held in Goreville this past week.

The Junior Blackcats defeated Vienna 9-3 Saturday and are scheduled to play at Pinckneyville in the State Tournament Oct. 5 at 9:30 a.m.

The Junior High softball team is headed to the state tournament after the Junior Lady Blackcats defeated Unity Point in last week’s regional championship game, by the score of 15-0. With the victory, Goreville improved its season mark to 23-3, tying the school record for most wins, which was set by last year’s team. Goreville will play this Saturday (Oct. 5) at Pinckneyville at 3:30 p.m., against either Pinckneyville or Trico.

In the regional title contest, Goreville scored six runs in the bottom of the first, the big hit being a two- run homer by Macy Goins.

The Junior Lady Blackcats added a run in the second inning and remained in control the rest of the way. Katy Schuetz had three hits and drove in five runs, while Macy Goins and Kaitlynn Moore each had two hits. Sam Licka, Hannah Link, Hollie Link and Kelsey Ray also had hits for Goreville. Cheyenne Walker pitched a no-hitter and recorded eight strikeouts.

Goreville reached the title game by beating Zeigler-Royalton, 15-0, in the regional semi-finals last Wednesday. Macy Goins had a pair of hits, including a home run and Kaitlynn Moore also had two hits. Cheyenne Walker threw a no-hitter in the circle for Goreville.

In their final regular season game on Monday of last week, the Junior Lady Blackcats picked up a 4-1 win over OLMC. Macy Goins, Katy Schuetz and Cheyenne Walker each had a hit to lead Goreville.
