Christmas Kid program in need of sponsors

GG26-xmas-kids-prgmThe Goreville High School Beta Club and student council Christmas kid program is seeking sponsors for a number of school children that will benefit from its efforts come Christmas morning.

The program, which began after the Ruitan Club closed its doors leaving funds on hand to be used at Christmas for community children, shops for clothing and “maybe a toy or two for the smaller children,” said program co-director Sally Jo Billingsley.

“Some people prefer to shop for themselves, so we can supply a list of sizes and general information to send the shoppers to the stores armed with a list of possibilities,” Billingsley said.  “We gather everything together and allow the parents to pick up and take home where they can wrap or give the gifts to their child in the fashion they choose.”

Billingsley said she and Kim Reynolds have inherited the project after Ruth Walker, and later Sharon Walker with Purpose Driven Youth, cared for it for many years.

“The need is great,” Billingsley said.  “The last few years we have seen an increase in participation and we have been blessed by the Lord always matching our need by sending us wonderful donors.  It is always a true miracle to watch it all unfold.”
