Jr. Blackcats win Egyptian Tourney

The Goreville Junior High boys’ basketball team won the Egyptian Early Bird tournament last Friday with a 49-46 win over Meridian in the championship contest.

The victory pushed the Junior Blackcats season record to 3-0.  Webb topped Goreville with 27 points, while Dunn-9, Bishop-6 and Geyman-5, also contributed to the scoring. The Junior Blackcats next play at Shawnee this Friday (Nov. 8), then travel to Egyptian next Tuesday.

Goreville opened their season on Tuesday of last week with a 70-34 win over Carbondale-Trinity in the first round of the Egyptian Early Bird tournament.  Leading the scoring for Goreville were: Webb-26; Dunn-16; Calhoon-8; Geyman-4; Lewis-4; Tosh-4.

The Junior Blackcats won their second round game on Thursday by defeating Vienna, 67-35.  Top scorers for Goreville were: Webb-22; Dunn-17; Bishop-8; Geyman-6; Massey-6.
