Blackcats take 3rd at Sesser

The Goreville High School boys basketball team won third place at the Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament by defeating the host Red Devils, 60-58, on Monday of last week.  The Blackcats finished tourney play with a 3-1 record and Zeke Snell was named to the all-tournament team. Goreville next plays Thursday (Jan. 9) at the McCracken Co. Festival of Hoops; Friday at Trico; Tuesday at Sesser-Valier.

The Blackcats held a slim 30-29 lead at halftime, but S-V outscored Goreville 14-11 in the third quarter to take a 43-41 lead into the fourth quarter.  The Blackcats came back using a 19-15 edge in the final frame to pull out the win.  Goreville was led by Kyefer Cavins, who scored a game high 23 points.  Nick Marlo had 17 points to pace S-V.
