Blackcats to host Pink Out Night Feb. 14
The Goreville Blackcats are teaming up with the Sesser-Valier Red Devils for what they hope to become an annual Pink Out Night in the fight against cancer.
The Blackcats will face the Red Devils Feb. 14, at home for the first ever Blackcats basketball Pink Out Night.
“This is a great cause and we’re looking forward to helping out,” said athletic director and head coach Todd Tripp. “We hope it will be a fun night for everyone who attends and we’re looking at this becoming an annual event.”
Tripp said the idea originated with the Blackcats Cheerleading squad and an already great relationship with Sesser helped push it through. The two schools are raising money with t-shirt sales and a 50/50 drawing with all proceeds going to help Johnson County cancer patients through the Heather Treat Memorial Fund.
“Wear your pink and come out and support your team,” Tripp said, adding that the students were the ones responsible for pushing the idea through and making it happen. “We’ve got a great bunch of kids at school who really care about others and they’re excited we’ve added this to the schedule.”
As the season draws to an end for the Lady Blackcats, Tripp said there are several important nights ahead for both teams, including: Feb. 3, high school girls vs Sesser-Valier in Pack the Place Night. Everyone is requested to wear black and gold.
The high school boys have ahead of them:
Feb. 8, Black Out Night vs Trico;
Feb. 14, Pink Out Night vs Sesser-Valier;
and Feb. 22, White Out Night vs Chester, which is also Senior Night.
