Blackcats dominate over Elverado in 85-23 win

The Goreville High School boys’ basketball team picked up a pair of conference wins last week.  On Monday (Jan. 27), the Blackcats cruised to an 85-23 victory over Elverado at Goreville.  Goreville took a 31-6 first quarter lead, then increased the margin to 46-15 at the half and the Blackcats stayed in command the rest of the way.  Goreville’s Zeke Snell topped all scorers with 28 points.

Scoring for Goreville: Snell-28; Cavins-20; Melot-13; Messmer-6; Vaughn-6; Bishop-4; Madden-4; Seavers-4.

Last Friday night, Goreville won at Zeigler-Royalton, by the score of 76-70.  The Blackcats led 35-25 at the half and 52-39 at the start of the fourth quarter, but Z-R came back to make it close in the final frame.  Goreville’s Zeke Snell was the game’s top scorer with 25 points.  Nick McPhail led Z-R with 22 points.
