Blackcats win on road over Christopher, fall to Trico in BDC contest at home

Last Friday, the Goreville High School boys’ basketball team picked up a 81-74 win at Christopher.  The Blackcats trailed 43-35 at halftime.  Christopher held a 60-53 lead heading into the fourth quarter, but Goreville outscored the Bearcats 28-14 in the final frame for the win.  Goreville’s Kyefer Cavins led all scorers with 29 points, while Zeke Snell added 28 points.  Christopher was paced by Hunter Wheeler, who scored 27 points.

On Saturday, the Blackcats lost a BDC contest at Trico, by the score of 78-69.  Goreville led 21-16 after the first quarter.  The Pioneers narrowed the gap to 40-38 at the half, then outscored Goreville 19-6 in the third period to take a 57-46 lead into the fourth quarter and they held on for the win.  Goreville’s Shon Messmer had 24 points to top all scorers, while Trico was led by Chase Rednour’s 23 points.

The Blackcats next host Sesser-Valier this Friday, then travel to Vienna on Saturday.
