The Goreville boys baseball season got off to a rough start on Friday, March 25 as the Blackcats hosted the Tuscola Warriors and fell 21 to 4.  The game was close early on as Goreville’s defense limited Tuscola to just one run in the first three innings. The Warriors pulled ahead 3-0 in the top of the fourth, but Goreville answered back with two runs in the bottom of the inning. In the fifth inning, the ‘Cats picked up a run off a line drive to first base by Shon Messmer, and they scored again on a sacrifice fly to tie the game up at 4. However, a pitching change at the start of the top of the seventh inning sank the Blackcats’ chances, and they gave up 15 runs in the inning to lose the game. Goreville also traveled on Century on Monday and fell 2-0.

The Lady Blackcats are off to a better start after they defeated Century 13-1 in their season opener behind a strong performance from Brittney Pritchett.  Pritchett pitched a complete game, giving up only five hits, and also batted 4-5 and hit a home run. Haley Darnell also hit 4-5, including two doubles.
