Goreville Band presents Jazz Dinner
The Goreville High School Jazz Band prepares for their upcoming Spaghetti Dinner fund-rasing performance in which the band will be performing during and after dinner with musical tunes such as Mood Indigo, April in Paris and Come Fly With Me said band director Barb Smith.
“We do this show every four years to allow band members to learn a little about jazz,” Smith said. “When the students first start learning the music they find it a little difficult because they are unfamiliar with the style.”
She said with practice the Jazz Band members begin to learn and enjoy the music and are looking forward to presenting their show this Saturday.
While the instrumentals music will make up most of the evenings entertainment, Smith said several pieces that include vocals are to be performed as well with such songs as Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree and Mister Sandman.
The dinner begins 6:30 p.m. at the high school gym with a cost of $8 with proceeds going towards new uniforms for incoming freshmen next year. Reserve seating is available by calling 995-2142.
