Blackcats win back-to-back games Saturday

Goreville’s Brant Glidewell drives one into deep center field for a single Saturday, as the Blackcats defeated Pinckneyville 6-5. Glidewell soon crossed the plate after two successful bunts by his teammates.

Under a clear sunny sky with temperatures in the low-mid 70’s, Blackcats baseball fans not only soaked in the sun, but enjoyed back-to-back victories.

The Goreville Blackcats team defeated Pinckneyville, 6-5 and Century, 6-2, Saturday on their home field.

Pinckneyville

In the first round of action, the Blackcats dominated with a 5-0 lead over the Panthers going into the sixth inning.

Pinckneyville fought back with three runs in the sixth and two more in the top of the seventh to tie the game.

In the bottom of the seventh, Goreville’s Nolan Vaughn singled to drive in the game-winning run.

Pinckneyville: 5–8–2

Goreville: 6–7–1

Top hitters: Panthers – Hicks 2-3, Huggins 2-3. Blackcats – Miles 2-3 (RBI), Vaughn 1-2 (RBI), Schuetz 2-4.

Century

After a short break, the Blackcats returned to the field to face the Centurions.

The game remained scoreless for the first two innings.

The Blackcats scored two in the bottom of the third, with Century scoring two in the top of the fourth.

The game was tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, when the Blackcats earned three runs, followed by one run in the sixth.

Nolan Vaughn and Brant Glidewell drove in two runs each.

The final score was 6-2.

Century: 2–11–1

Goreville: 6–12–1
