First property tax installment due Friday, Aug. 14
Johnson County treasurer Brent Williams reminds real estate owners that Friday, August 14, 2015 is the last day to pay the first installment of their Johnson County real estate taxes without penalties. After Friday there will be a 1.5% per month interest charged on any portion of the first installment that goes unpaid.
The second installment is due September 25, 2015.
Real estate owners can pay both installments prior to the Aug. 14th deadline to avoid interest penalties at a later date.
Payments are accepted at the treasurer’s office, by mail, by phone or online.
Payments can be made at the treasurer’s office located at 111 N 5th Street in Vienna, or by mail to Johnson County Treasurer, P.O. Box 38, Vienna, IL 62995.
All payments made by mail must be postmarked on or before Aug. 14, 2015. Otherwise the interest penalty will be applied.
Payments made in the treasurer’s office must be with cash, check or money order. The treasurer’s office is not set up to accept credit cards of any type.
To pay your taxes with a credit card call 1-877-690-3729 and use ‘Jurisdiction Code 7017’. You can also pay by credit card online at www.illinoisepay.com.
The real estate and mobile home bills have different payment schedules and guidelines.
For mobile home owners, the due date for the full amount is September 25, 2015. A penalty of $25 per month, or any part of the month, will be charged after September 25. Credit card payments for mobile home owners are not accepted.
Unpaid mobile home taxes will be sold at the annual tax sale to be held November 16.
For your convenience, the treasurer’s office will be open throughout the noon hours Monday, Aug. 10, thru Friday, Aug. 14.
There is a locked after-hours drop box available for payments located right outside the treasurer’s office door. Any payments put into the drop box on August 14 will be treated as if they were received by the deadline. Drop-box payments are collected twice daily.
